Cannot stop employees from using social media on the job?

All employees at every level of your business spend some time on social media during work hours. Whether they are checking their Instagram, posting a tweet or liking some posts on Facebook, there is always something to do on social media.

If John is on Facebook half the day, it may reduce his productivity significantly. No one wants that, not even John. He just cannot help that Twitter is so entertaining and addictive.

Internet monitoring is the best approach because you can discretely monitor how someone is using the internet on your network. If you notice that an employee’s social media usage is coming in the way of their work or productivity, you can raise the issue with them privately in a discreet manner.

This approach will get you the best results. Think about it, if you ban social media on your networks, employees will simply start using their data. If you warn employees against using social media, they may resent you for it but if you monitor and privately raise concerns, they may just feel a little embarrassed.

When you privately tell John that you are concerned about his productivity because of his habits, he will be more likely to correct his habit because he will realize it is bad for his work. No one has to know; it is just between you and John.
